Sedgley burglar who targeted elderly women jailed for stealing £15,000 worth of jewellery from 83-year-old widow

A burglar has been jailed for four years after stealing £15,000 worth of jewellery from vulnerable elderly women suffering with dementia in Sedgley.

David Allen, 40, knocked on the door of an 83-year-old widow in Sedgley on June 17 and offered to clean her windows.

When she let him in Allen went into her bedroom and stole £15,000 worth of jewellery, then charged her £50 for cleaning her windows, despite not having a bucket or any brushes.

The lady's neighbour spotted Allen in the property but when they got there Allen had already left. When they checked CCTV cameras they realised he had stolen the jewellery, which had were bought for her by her late husband.

Allen, of Tipton Road, Sedgley, pawned the jewellery for £250 later that day. He was later arrested, pleaded guilty to burglary and fraud and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday (October 17).
