Firefighters at Dudley Fire Station completed a charity car wash earlier this year to raise funds for a public access bleed kit, specifically for the Sedgley area, and approached the landlord of the popular White Horse in Bilston Street.

The bleed control kit has been installed on the outside of the building after the firefighters split the £1,000 proceeds of the car wash between the Daniel Baird Foundation and the pub.

The kit is used to slow down bleeding in the case of an accident and, being publicly accessible, Watch Commander Jake Marsden said it could prove vital in an emergency before trained paramedics arrive.

He said: "These kits can be invaluable and training is available in using them but the main thing is they are there for all the public to use - in this case in Sedgley but we are working with the foundation to spread them far and wide.

"We had to wash a lot of cars to raise the money but it was well worth it and we continue to try and support worthy causes in Dudley Borough."

The White Horse's  parent company Amber Taverns has also pledged to replace or update the kit after two years using its own funds.
