'It's heartwarming to see that people still want to fight': Protestors wage war on West Midlands greenbelt plans
The continued battle to protect an area of greenbelt land in the West Midlands countryside has seen protestors come out to make their voices heard.
Residents living near The Triangle, an area of green space near Kingswinford, held a demonstration against plans to build 550 new homes on the land, along with a further 330 on land next to the historic Holbeche House in Holbeache Lane.
Around 40 protestors held up placards around a big sign on the corner of The Triangle, with passing motorists sounding their horns in support of the protest, which comes after outline plans were submitted by Persimmon Homes to develop the Holbeache Lane site, which is next to the house where the Gunpowder Plotters made their last stand.
Additionally, real estate company Barberry (Summerhill) Ltd had held a consultation on proposals to build on the Triangle site, bounded by Lodge Lane, Kidderminster Road and Swindon Road.
Pressure to develop the sites led to Dudley Council pulling out of the joint Black Country development plan and producing its own 'brownfield only' plan to meet future housing requirements in the borough.
Steve Parkes, who is chairman of the Wall Heath and Kingswinford Action Group, spoke about the need for the protest and why the land around The Triangle was so special.
He said: "This protest is a key part of our campaign to prevent this site and the site by Holbeache from having homes built on their greenbelt as we don't need the homes, end of, that's our campaign.
