Rail lines open after person dies at Coseley in early morning incident

All rail lines between Wolverhampton and Birmingham were closed this morning after a person died at Coseley station.

Police and ambulance crews attended the incident at around 6.45am today (Friday), with lines between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street being closed.

They re-opened two hours later but a spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed a person had sadly died.

A statement read: "We were called to an incident on the railway line near to Coseley Railway Station at 6.45am, one ambulance and two paramedic officers attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save them and they were confirmed dead at the scene.

A National Rail statement said: "The emergency services have now completed their work following an incident between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street earlier this morning.

"All lines between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street have reopened, allowing trains to run again in both directions.

"Whilst service recovers, trains may be cancelled, severely delayed by up 30 minutes or revised as a result."

Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway, Transport for Wales and West Midlands Railway services were all affected.
