Merry Hill machete attack: Shopping centre bosses supporting police over 'isolated' incident
Bosses at the giant Merry Hill shopping centre have welcomed police action after a teenager was cut with a machete in an altercation at the centre.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a 17-year-old was injured in a machete attack at the centre in Brierley Hill on Friday (November 28).
Police believe there was an altercation involving two groups, with one group chasing the other.
The victim suffered a small cut to the back with a weapon, believed to be a machete, which needed medical attention.
The 16-year-old suspect was detained on Saturday on suspicion of wounding with intent.
Jonathan Poole, centre manager at Merry Hill, said: “Merry Hill has been supporting West Midlands Police following Friday's isolated incident.
"We’re pleased that a suspect has now been arrested, and we continue to support the police while they investigate further.
“Our number one priority is to make Merry Hill a safe place to visit, and we take any form of anti-social behaviour extremely seriously.
"As a centre, we consistently work alongside West Midlands Police and local organisations to ensure that the centre remains a welcoming environment for all visitors.”
Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident and anyone with information can get in touch via Live Chat on the force website, or by calling 101, and quoting log 3541 of November 28.
