Former Amberley Care Home manager Jamiel Slaney-Summers, 65, cannot attend the trial due to being in hospital, the court heard.

Judge John Butterfield KC has sent the jury home at Wolverhampton Crown Court until Monday (October 20) after long delays due to Slaney-Summers's non-attendance.

The judge previously complained the trial was suffering "from a death by a thousand cuts" due to the continued delays to the trial.

Planned for three weeks, the trial has only heard evidence on six out of a possible 15 days since it began with the jury hearing prosecution evidence alleging the former care home manager convinced dying resident Rita Barnsley to change her will to benefit her and owners of the home Graham and Lyn Walker.

Slaney-Summers is on trial accused of theft and abusing her position for financial gain after a vulnerable resident's will was allegedly changed in favour of her and the owners of Amberley Care Home.

Slaney-Summers, of Raven Hays Road, Northfield, is also accused of stealing £6,000 from 85-year-old Rita Barnsley.

The home's owners Graham Walker, aged 74, and Lyn Walker, aged 71, both of Ribbesford Close, Cradley, also in the dock accused of dishonestly abusing their position to make financial gain.

They deny all charges. The trial will resume on Monday.
