A team of volunteers from the water company will also carry out the project, which will see the installation of new outdoor lighting and improvements to the car park.

Fens Pool Community Association secured the funds after topping a public poll of shortlisted projects.

The news was welcomed by Dudley Labour MP Sonia Kumar, who attended an event last week at Pensnett Liberal Club which raised more than £800 for the centre.

She said: "I am absolutely delighted for Fens Pool Community Association. Their success shows just how valued they are by local people, and how much good they do for our community.

"The funding and volunteer support will make a real difference, ensuring the centre remains a safe, welcoming hub for residents.”

The fire, on August 19, left a gaping hole in the roof and severe smoke damage at the single-storey brick building off Chapel Street .

Miss Kumar added: “The fire was a terrible blow for the community, but the strength, determination, and resilience shown by the association and its volunteers has been inspiring.

"I will continue to stand with them as they rebuild and grow, because centres like Fens Pool are at the heart of what makes Dudley such a strong community.”
