The West Midlands Distillery, which is based at the Waterfront Brierley Hill and has a distillery in Rowley Regis, sold 900 bottles of its Inaugural Expression in 24 hours.

Jordan Lunn, 40, from Rowley Regis, founded the distillery ten years ago after a honeymoon in Scotland cemented his determination to distill alcohol full time.

He said: "This has been a decade in the making, after all you cannot even call a whisky a whisky until it has been in a cask for three years, so to sell out in one day was amazing."

The Inaugural Expressiom was met with glee from whisky enthusiasts and the local community alike. Bottles were snapped up by collectors, connoisseurs, and curious newcomers keen to experience the first single malt whisky ever to be distilled and matured in the heart of The Black Country.

Despite the sell-out at the distillery, a limited number of bottles are still available through selected independent retailers and specialist online whisky platforms. The distillery has encouraged those who missed out to check availability at trusted stockists while supplies last, with the full list being available on their website - www.westmidlandsdistillery.co.uk

Jordan said: "We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who’s picked up a bottle of our first single malt — your support has been overwhelming and truly humbling. This release is the culmination of years of hard work, experimentation, and belief in what we could create right here in the West Midlands.

"It’s a proud moment for all of us at the distillery, but it’s also just the beginning. We’ve got a whole series of exciting whiskies in the works — each one telling a new part of our story. From bold new finishes to long-term cask experiments, we’re just getting started.”

The distillery team is already looking ahead to future releases, with additional expressions scheduled to launch in late 2025 and beyond. These will include limited-edition cask finishes, single cask bottlings, and ongoing work with local suppliers and cooperages to further explore flavour innovation.

He added: “The response has shown there’s a real appetite for quality whisky made outside the traditional heartlands,” added Lunn. “We’re proud to be flying the flag for Birmingham and the wider region, and we’re only just getting started.”
