Dudley College forced into 'temporary lockdown' after knife-wielding group spotted in town centre

A Black Country college was temporarily placed into lockdown after a group of people armed with a knife were spotted nearby.

Dudley College confirmed their sites were temporarily placed into lockdown 'for the safety of all students and staff' at 3.45pm on Thursday, February 26.

A group of people were spotted chasing others with a knife through Dudley town centre, but by the time officers arrived they had left the area.

A statement from West Midlands Police read: "We received a report of a group of people - who were armed with a knife - chasing others in Tower Street, Dudley, at just after 3.45pm today (26 February).

"Officers attended but the group had already left the area. No-one is known to have been injured but we're carrying out further enquiries to establish the full circumstances.

A post on Dudley College's Facebook page read: "At 3:45pm on Thursday 26th February, following an incident near to Dudley Town Centre, Dudley College sites were temporarily placed into lockdown for the safety of all students and staff.

"The College wishes to thank everyone for their co-operation and patience. All sites were reopened at 4:30pm and no evening classes or examinations are affected."
