Peter Westwood, who has runs Old Tom's Donuts in Castle Street, Dudley, plans to donate all his takings on March 3 to Birmingham Children's Hospital to mark the birthday of Amelia Kolpa, from Rowley Regis.

Amelia, who will turn eight that day, has neuroblastoma and has been in and out of hospital since the age of two and a half.

An online appeal was organised to collect more than 8,000 cards to mark her eighth birthday. Organisers said they were overwhelmed by the response, and said the number could reach six figures.

Mr Westwood, who is celebrating his own five years of being cancer-free after receiving surgery in December 2020, said he had been touched by Amelia's story and wanted to help.

"The important thing is I want as many people as possible to come to the van that day," he said.

Mr Westwood, who has also been collecting cards for the appeal, said there would also be collection pots for people to make donations on the day.
