"It's such a horrible thing to happen" - Neighbours on residential street in Dudley where house fire left one man dead share sorrow

Residents on a street in Dudley where a man died during a house fire were left stunned by the incident.

Emergency services was called to a property on Green Park Road, Dudley at 5.14pm on Monday, February 2. 

Three fire crews, two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were sent to the scene where they found a man in his 70s who could not be saved.

Three other people were found outside the property when emergency services arrived and were treated by ambulance staff.

A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service said: "Investigations are taking place this morning at the scene of a house fire on Green Park Road, Dudley, where someone has very sadly died.

"The body of a man, who was believed to be in his mid 70s, was discovered in the living room by our crews.

"Three fire crews from Dudley and Tipton fire stations responded to the fire shortly after 5pm on Monday 2 February.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “A man was found inside the property and, sadly, it quickly became clear that he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.

“There were three other patients outside the property upon arrival.

“A man was treated by ambulance staff for suspected smoke inhalation and conveyed to Russell’s Hall Hospital.

“A woman was also treated for suspected smoke inhalation but did not wish to go to hospital and so was given self-care advice and discharged at the scene.

“The final patient, also a woman, was assessed by medics but did not require further treatment and was discharged at the scene.”

Residents living near Green Park Road, Dudley, expressed their sadness following the fire. Talking about the tragic circumstances, Linda Rose, 51, of the Green Park Road area, said: "I didn't even know anything was going on until the emergency services got here.

"It's such a horrible thing to happen. I can't imagine what the person's family must be going through. My thoughts are with them."

Mark Jessops, who is also from the area, said: "It's really sad. I only knew something was going on when the emergency services turned u. I heard one person died. It's tragic really."

Jayce Parker, aged 38, added: "It's such a shame. It's got to be hard for the family. We don't know the people who lived there, but that doesn't make it any less sad. Our thoughts are with the family."

West Midlands Police remained at the scene on Tuesday as their cordon stayed in place while further investigations took place.
