Rose Cook-Monk is one of the leaders of Remembrance events in Dudley as the poppy field organiser and as one of the co-founders of the Dudley Remembers Group, and is a visible presence at Remembrance events in the borough.

She said: "Personally, it's a very special time as my family have always been involved in the British Legion and I'm following on from my grandmother and my dad, so it's a very special time for all of us.

"It's important to remember the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, but we need to remember that Remembrance is for all wars that have happened, from Afghanistan, Iraq, the Falklands, Northern Ireland and more.

"Even though this year has been very much about the veterans of the Second World War, we have to remember our modern-day veterans and armed forces as well."

Within Dudley, there will be plenty of events and displays to mark Remembrance, from the peace garden near the Cenotaph on Ednam Road to the parade and service of Remembrance in the town on Remembrance Sunday.

She said: "It really does make you realise that it is so worth your time and effort when you see everyone standing there for the two minutes' silence, especially the older generation, as you always wonder what they're thinking about and who they're remembering.

"Equally, it's lovely to see the children standing there in silence, remembering what they are there for and why they have a poppy on their chest, so it's always really emotional.

"I do think about my family who were lost to war and people who we call heroes in our family, so it's a very special time for us and a great way for the people of Dudley to come together and it's vital that we never forget."
