Russells Hall Hospital, part of the Dudley NHS Foundation Trust, will remember the heroism of staff during the Covid-19 pandemic with a large rainbow-shaped structure outside the hospital that was unveiled by Dudley's mayor Pete Lee on Thursday, October 23 afternoon.

The sculpture replicates the rainbow symbol widely used to pay tribute during the pandemic, and has been paid for by contributions from local companies, organisations and individuals.

Councillor Keiran Casey started fundraising for the memorial in 2020, and despite saying it had "taken longer than he hoped" to bring the plans to life, he still believes it will be a "meaningful and lasting tribute" to those who died, NHS staff and other key workers.

The Labour councillor said "well over £50,000" had been raised, alongside donations of labour and materials.

Glassmakers based at Ruskin Glass Centre in Stourbridge and a local fabricator worked on the sculpture.
