Leading figures at Dudley Yemeni Community Association recognised at awards ceremony

Two members of a community association working to help the Yemeni community across Dudley borough have been acknowledged for their work at a special awards ceremony.

Saiff Salih and Dr Nazir Shameem from the Halesowen/Dudley Yemeni Community Association (HDYCA) were nominees at the 13th Annual Community Inspiration Awards.

The awards were held in Birmingham on September 26 and celebrated outstanding individuals and organisations who made significant contributions to strengthening communities across the region.

Mr Salih was awarded first runner up in the Lifetime Achievement/Volunteer Award category, while Dr Shameem was shortlisted among the top six nominees for the “Bringing People Together” Award.

A spokesman for HDYCA said: "The Halesowen/Dudley Yemeni Community Association (HDYCA) was proudly represented at the 13th Annual Community Inspiration Awards, held on September 26 in Birmingham.

"This year, HDYCA received a prestigious recognition as Saiff Salih, vice chair of HDYCA, was awarded first runner-up in the Lifetime Achievement/Volunteer Award category.

"This honour acknowledges Mr. Salih’s longstanding commitment and leadership, which have been instrumental in establishing HDYCA as a vital community hub in Halesowen.

"Also among the honourees was, Dr Nazir Shameem who was shortlisted among the top six nominees for the 'Bringing People Together' Award.

"His recognition reflects his tireless efforts to improve community awareness of health services and his invaluable role in supporting the wellbeing of local residents.

“These recognitions are a testament to the dedication and service of our community leaders, staff, and volunteers, whose contributions continue to ensure the provision of vital services for Halesowen and beyond."
