Dudley MP and faith leaders join together in sorrow at attack on synagogue

A Black Country MP has joined faith leaders in her constituency to express their sorrow and outrage at an attack on a Manchester synagogue with left two -people dead and three seriously wounded.

Sonia Kumar, MP for Dudley, joined church, mosque and temple leaders from the constituency in issuing a statement of solidarity with the victims of the attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue yesterday (Friday).

The Rev James Treasure, of St Thomas and St Luke's Church in High Street, Mohammed Aurangzeb and Majid Riaz of Dudley Central Mosque, Kanti Patel of the Shri Krishna Temple and Balbinder Singh Dhadwal and Jasbir Singh Ria of Guru Nanak Singh Sabha Gurdwara condemning the 'cowardly and hateful' attack on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

"Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire Jewish community," their statement said.

"This was a cowardly and hateful act targeting people on the holiest day in the Jewish Calendar, Yom Kippur. 

"Such violence has no place in our society. There must be zero tolerance for antisemitism and all forms of religious hatred."

They said, as leaders from diverse faiths and communities, they reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, compassion, and mutual respect.

"Let this be a moment where we come together, not in fear, but in unity, to uphold the values that bind us as neighbours and as a nation."
