'It's more than a building, it's a living archive': MP praises Dudley local history centre
An MP has praised a local history centre for its role in preserving Black Country heritage for future generations.
Sonia Kumar paid a visit to Dudley Archives and Local History Centre in Tipton Road, which features copies of the Express & Star going back to 1874.
She described the centre as a 'cornerstone of local heritage and learning', with more than 15,000 books and ;pamphlets, 26,000 historical images, as well as parish records, maps, and even rare items like the 800-year-old Papal Bull.
Miss Kumar said it also served as a hub for family history research, educational workshops, and community exhibitions, making it an invaluable resource for residents of all ages.

“The Dudley Archives and Local History Centre is more than just a building, it’s a living archive of our shared history and a space for learning, discovery, and connection,” she said.
Miss Kumar said it was essential to continue to invest in and protect such services that enriched the community
The Dudley MP also took the opportunity to highlight the Dudley home library service, which she described as a lifeline for residents who were unable to access a traditional library due to illness, disability, or immobility.
The free service delivers books, including large-print editions, talking books, music CDs, DVDs, and even jigsaws, directly to users’ homes every four weeks. Library staff select items based on individual preferences, and users can request specific titles or subjects.
“This service ensures that no one is excluded from the joy of reading and learning,” she added.
“Whether recovering from surgery or living with long-term mobility challenges, Dudley’s Home Library Service brings the library to your doorstep.”
