The collision involved a Ford Transit van, a white Seat and a white Hyundai i20, just after 7.30am.
Another man, also aged 22, and a third man, aged 28, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged. All three men who died were in the Seat vehicle.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police's serious collisions unit, said: "This is a truly awful tragedy and our thoughts remain with loved ones of all those affected.
“Specialist family liaison officers are continuing to support them at this most dreadful time."

Earlier, residents living near the crash said that crossing the junction is like 'risking it all' with many calling for a change to the route.
Steven Davies, 38, of Highgate Street, said: "I heard the crash this morning, it was so loud. You could tell it was quite bad.
"It's horrific, really. It's not a bad road, but it's a bad junction. You really risk it all when you cross it. It's got a blind corner that is lethal. I hope their families are coping well."
An investigation has been launched into the incident, with West Midlands Police asking anyone with information to contact officers directly using 101, or the Live Chat service on the force website, quoting reference number 657 of August 6.
Mr Hughes added: "Investigations are progressing and we'd urge people not to speculate on the circumstances.
“If anyone has any information about the collision or any footage of the collision or the vehicles beforehand, I would ask them to get in touch with us."
