Selfless work by builders helps to revive Dudley church
The selfless work of a Black Country building firm has helped give a Dudley church a new lease of life.
World Decor Home Improvements have spent the few weeks working to renovate Darkhouse Baptist Church in Coseley, all while not taking a penny in payment for the work.
The three-person team from World Decor have completed a large number of upgrades to the 18th century church, with director Simon Kumar explaining what work had been done.
"Since we started here, we have sanded and repainted all the doors on the church, painting them a number of different colours," he said.
"We've also done the varnishing of the main doors and painted the strips of the masonry on the front of the church.
"We're also going to work on the brickwork at the front of the church, paint the outside area and the back car park and cut the grass as well."
Tatty
Mr Kumar said he had been asked if he could help by the secretary and deacon of the church Kim Humphries and offered his services for free, having been to the church in the past.
The 31-year-old, from Coseley, said the state of the church wasn't very good when they first got there as it had been left alone and no one had done any work on it.
He said: "We saw that it needed a lot of work before the church reopened, with the paint getting old and looking very tatty.
"It's been very good to do something good for the community and we didn't even ask about money as we were happy to do it for nothing.
"Even the lads who've been working for me for the longest time and are on good rates said they were happy to do it for nothing."
