Dudley North MP, Marco Longhi, went to Top Church in Dudley to meet the team and see the work done by the church in the community.

Mr Longhi was met by the reverend James Treasure, the vicar of Top Church, and the Bishop of Dudley, Martin Gorick, who had provided Mr Longhi with the introduction.

He spent time with the church team, which has worked during lockdown to keep the church running and engaging with the community in Dudley.

He was also given a tour of the 800-year-old crypt, which is found underground beneath the church.

The crypt contains a water cistern that brought fresh water to the people of Dudley in the 19th century, bringing an end to a cholera epidemic.

Bishop Gorick said: “We were honoured to receive Marco Longhi MP at the iconic Top Church in Dudley, on the anniversary of his election.

“James Treasure and the people of Top Church are finding life and hope at the heart of Dudley and it was good to share something of their vision for the future with Mr Longhi.

“It was also good to think how we can work together for the common good.”
