Rare watches expected to fetch thousands at Black Country auction
Rare watches are set to go under the hammer in the Black Country next month.
The pieces will be sold at Aston's Auctioneers, Dudley – with an "extremely rare" 1969 Patek Philippe among the lots.
The 18-carat gold watch, which comes with an original box and authentication papers, is estimated to reach between £3,000 to £5,000 – a "conservative" estimation.
Ben Johnson, a consultant at the auctioneers, said: "We've got a few nice vintage watches and it is just rare to see a Patek Philippe with an original box and papers.
"It's a very desirable brand.
"Over the last few years the market for vintage and older watches has boomed – it's a very popular market."
Other watches on sale include a 1978 rare Rolex Tudor Monte Carlo, estimated between £3,000 to £5,000.
"It's the exotic series of it so the dial is a different deal to what it normally is," Ben said.
"It was just brought into one of our valuation days – as was our Patek Philippe."
A 1970 Breitling Navitimer, estimated between £1,500 to £2,500, will also be up for sale along with the other pieces.
Mr Johnson added: "We're expecting quite a lot of watch collectors and dealers to pay a lot of interest because of the pieces we've got.
"It's estimated at £3,000 to £5,000 which is pretty conservative. You never quite know what they can go for. When it gets to vintage, it's the demand.
"You might think it's worth something and it could sell for a lot more.
"You can't put a price on the original papers and box and that's why it's exciting with the older watches – you never know.
"It's kind of going into the unknown but it's exciting because it can throw out some surprises."
The auction will take place on June 7.
