‘Shrewsbury can’t put on its flower show - so why not have one in Bridgnorth?’ Town’s Pride organiser in bold proposal

A Bridgnorth resident has mooted the idea that the town could host its own flower show following the cancellation of Shrewsbury’s annual event.

The Shrewsbury Flower Show has been a fixture of the Shropshire events calendar for 150 years, but has now been cancelled two years in a row.

Last year organisers at the Shropshire Horticultural Society (SHS) cancelled the 2025 event citing “unsustainable” costs.

And last month the SHS confirmed that there will not be a flower show in 2026, casting the future of the historic event - Britain’s oldest flower show - into doubt. The Shrewsbury Flower Show typically sees around 60,000 people attend the event over two days.

However, one Bridgnorth resident believes his town could host its own flower show, now that the county town event has fallen by the wayside.
