The officers from Operation Skybridge, the proactive crime team in Birmingham, have been continuing their positive work in Sutton Coldfield.

Skybridge, made up of plain-clothed and uniformed officers, deploys to different areas of Birmingham carrying out proactive enforcement and using a range of tactics to act on issues concerning the local community.

West Midlands Police said that vehicle crime has been a concern for residents, so Skybridge bolstered local officers and neighbourhood colleagues by carrying out patrols in hotspot areas and targeting offenders.

During their deployment of 18 shifts, starting last month, the team arrested seven people for a total of 18 criminal offences including robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession with intent to supply drugs as well as multiple driving offences including drink driving.

The Skybridge team also recovered four stolen vehicles and seized nine others for offences like no tax or insurance, including seizing an illegal e-bike after stopping a man and recovering a knife on Springfield Road.

Skybridge officers were also joined by Chief Constable Craig Guildford on a shift, where he patrolled the streets and engaged with locals.

As well as making arrests and seizing vehicles and weapons, the team have worked with local officers to build intelligence for the area – having received helpful information from the local community.

Acting Sergeant Danny Fulford, from Operation Skybridge, said: “As ever, working with the local community has been a key aim for us and we’re grateful for the support we’ve had in Sutton.

“Through that engagement, we’ve been able to act alongside dedicated local officers on useful information provided to us.

“Skybridge is relentless in targeting those intent on causing harm in communities across Birmingham, and we are keen to hear from people across the city as we work to tackle offences like burglary, robbery, and vehicle offence.”
