In a message posted on the GoFundMe website Gemma Lloyd, the mother of Daniel Drewitt, said: "Myself and my family would like to say thank you so much to everyone who has donated to this fundraiser and a thank you for Helena Swallow, my friend, who thought to do this for us to help us through the most difficult time of our lives.

"The amount of love and support from everyone has been overwhelming. Just seeing the names of all the people who have donated even the anonymous ones has been so touching and It shows just how loved Daniel was by so many people.

"This makes me feel so proud of him and gives us comfort which is helping us pull through the unimaginable pain and loss we are feeling right now. We will forever be grateful for your kindness.

"Tell your children every day you love them and keep them close. A light went out on earth that day, the day we all said goodbye but, on that day, a new star was born which is now the brightest in the sky."
