The trio are now receiving around the clock care from RSPCA Worcester & Mid-Worcestershire Branch and have been affectionately named Peach, Apricot and Plum.

On Monday, February 23 a call was made to the RSPCA reporting that young kittens had been found with their mum, who had tragically died, on Cavendish Road in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

“We’d really like to thank the person who called this into us, as sadly their mum - a beautiful tabby and white young cat - had died and they would have been unable to survive without her,” she said.

“They were found in an alley between two houses and were very cold when I collected them. There appeared to be only two kittens at first, but as I was walking away I thought I heard a little squeak.

“I went back and unfolded the sleeping bag that they were lying on and I heard another little squeak as there was another kitten that had managed to crawl inside the sleeping bag.

“This one was smaller than the other two - I was so relieved that I didn't miss him.

“We’d like to thank the centre for taking these three kittens into their care where they will receive the best TLC from their team.”

Centre Supervisor Emily Cawte said: “Just after closing Tracy arrived with the three small kittens. Now safe in our care we’ve named them Peach, Apricot and Plum - our tiny fruit trio, who we hope will soon be ripening into strong, healthy little kittens.

“All three little ones are underweight, but we’re so pleased to say they are feeding well and already responding to the loving care of one of our incredible foster mums, who is providing warmth, comfort and round-the-clock feeds to help them grow stronger.”

The rescue came just before World Spay Day on Tuesday, February 24, with the RSPCA urging cat owners to neuter their pets as unprecedented numbers of felines fill its animal centres across England and Wales.

The RSPCA say more than 1,400 cats were in their care at the end of December 2025 - a 72 per cent rise from the 832 cats that were with the charity in December 2021. Across the wider RSPCA network, made up of 133 separate registered charities, there are at least 2,300 cats currently in care.
