Ali is described as being of medium build, with black hair and a black beard. He was last seen wearing a khaki raincoat with blue jeans and dark shoes.

Since Ali went missing, West Midlands Police officers have carried out an extensive investigation and searches around the area where he was last seen by specialist search officers, so far unsuccessful.

Superintendent Susan Mabbett from the force's Public Protection Unit said: "Ali has been missing for a year now.

"This has been an extensive investigation led by detectives from our specialist Locate team. We've also used resources from across the force, including our drones team, specialist search officers, and we have also had support from other agencies including British Transport Police and West Midlands Fire Service in supporting our search for Ali.

"We would like to appeal to the public for any information that you may have which may assist our investigation, and to help us find Ali."

Ali's parents spoke at the scene of where Ali was last seen on CCTV, in Middlemore Road.

They said: "It's been a year now since we last saw our son Ali. A year since we haven't seen his beautiful face, heard his voice and seen his lovely smile.

"We don't know where he is. We haven't heard from him. There's no social media activity, no bank activity, nothing.

"Ali had an economics degree from the University of York. He'd worked as a data scientist. He was intelligent, kind and loving.

"We are yearning to see our son. We've missed him so much this past year.

"He's missed out on so many happy occasions, celebrations, graduations, and the birth of his nephew.

"We are pleading to the public for information on Ali's whereabouts.

"Please, if you have any information about Ali's whereabouts we want to find our son. We want him home. We want to find him safe.

"We love you. We miss you. It's very hard not to have you around."
