Investigation launched after man has cardiac arrest and dies after 'disorder' on Birmingham street

Police have launched an investigation after a man suffered a cardiac arrest and died on a supermarket car park after being involved in 'disorder' on a Birmingham street.

West Midlands Police said the man died after being found with serious injuries in Handsworth.

A spokesperson said officers were called just after 12.45pm on Monday following reports that man was having a cardiac arrest on a supermarket car park on Soho Road.

"Sadly, the 40-year-old man died in hospital yesterday afternoon," the spokesperson said. "His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist detectives. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this distressing time.

"We understand the man was involved in a disorder in the Soho Road/Holyhead Road area prior to him being found.

"As part of our enquiries, a 34-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder and has been bailed pending further enquires.

"A second 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released under investigation.

"We're reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses as part of our investigation.
