Two lanes closed on M42 near Birmingham Airport after crash between 'at least three vehicles'

Delays of around 30 minutes have been reported on the M42 near Birmingham Airport following a crash between three vehicles.

National Highways West Midlands has warned of delays of around 30 minutes following a three-vehicle crash on the M42.

The crash, which was first reported by the highways authority at around 6.18pm, closed two lanes (of three) of the M42 between Junction 7 (M6) and Junction 6, for Birmingham Airport

Road users were warned to 'expect delays', with around three miles of congestion reported near the crash, and recovery vehicles on the scene.

A National Highways West Midlands spokesperson said: "Two (of three) lanes closed on the M42 southbound between Junction 7 (M6) and Junction 6 (BHX) due to a collision involving at least three vehicles. 

"Recovery on scene. Delays in excess of 30 minutes, approximately three miles of congestion."

West Midlands Roads warned of 'major disruption' due to the crash, warning that delays were averaging around 30 minutes.

A West Midlands Roads spokesperson said: "M42 southbound between Junction 7 and Junction 6.

"Lanes one, two and three closed due to a collision. Delays are averaging around 30 minutes. Plan your journey ahead."
