Homeless Birmingham van thief, 33, charged with 15 offences including dangerous driving and common assault

A man has been charged with several offences after a stolen van was recovered in Birmingham.

Officers from West Midlands Police's Roads Policing Unit had been looking for the van, which was taken in a burglary on Saturday, December 6.

The following morning, the van was spotted in Selly Oak, and traffic officers quickly caught up with it.

Police have appealed for information.

After refusing to stop for them, officers pursued the van before the driver got out and was detained after a short chase on foot. 

Daniel Roberts was arrested and, following an investigation by the Birmingham Vehicle Crime team, was charged with 15 offences in total, including aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and possession of a Class A drug. 

The 33-year-old, of no fixed address, was also charged with several shop thefts, and common assault. 

He appeared at Birmingham Magistrates on Monday, December 8 and was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing later this month.
