Man arrested after woman stabbed in the neck in Birmingham in 'unprovoked attack'

A man is in police custody after a woman was stabbed in the neck in Birmingham.

The woman, in her 30s, was rushed to hospital with a serious neck injury and remains in a critical condition after the attack, which police say is believed to have been unprovoked.

Officers were called to Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm yesterday (Friday) to reports of a stabbing.

A man in his 20s was arrested close to the scene and remains in custody.

West Midlands Police officers were at the scene today carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances of the attack.

Detective Inspector James Nix said: “We believe this was an unprovoked attack and are working to understand why it happened.

“We will have officers in the area today to continue our investigation and provide reassurance.

“We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
