Man in 'critical condition' in hospital after being hit by car in Birmingham

A man is seriously ill in hospital after he was hit by a car in Birmingham.

The man was hit by a car at the junction of City Road and Sandon Road, Edgbaston at 1.11pm today (Wednesday).

Tram services between Grand Central and Edgbaston Village are not running due to a medical emergency

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma team responded to multiple 999 calls after the incident.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said:  “Crews arrived to find a pedestrian, a man, in a critical condition. 

"The team of ambulance staff worked rapidly, with support from emergency service colleagues, to administer advanced life support and trauma care to the man. 

"He was then conveyed by ambulance on blue lights and sirens to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency trauma care.”

City Road is currently still closed to traffic after the accident.
