Man charged with attemped burglaries at closed shops in Birmingham city centre
A man from Liverpool has been charged with two counts of attempted burglary at closed shops in Birmingham city centre.
Officers from West Midlands Police were called to reports of a man gaining entry to a closed shop on Bennetts Hill at around 7.30am on Saturday (October 18).
City centre officers, including those from Operation Taurus, began enquiries, when they received another report of a man inside a closed shop on New Street shortly afterwards.
A thorough investigation, including analysis of CCTV, led police to identify a suspect, and a man was swiftly arrested in the city centre.
Daniel Lloyd, aged 42, from Liverpool, was subsequently charged with two counts of attempted burglary, and was appearing before Birmingham Magistrates on Monday.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Our Operation Taurus officers work closely with partners to deal with criminality, and they're committed to bringing to justice those who target the city centre.
"In Birmingham and across the West Midlands, we're using a range of tactics to tackle crime involving shops and other businesses, and we closely monitor retail areas.
"It's important people report any incidents to us so we can take action. You can do this by calling 101, or via Live Chat on our website. Always call 999 in an emergency."
