This is the dramatic moment a Second World War shell was detonated in a controlled explosion near the Aston Expressway.

Plumes of sand and smoke were sent billowing into the air as a loud bang brought people to a standstill.

The explosion was heard for miles around as the force of the explosion caused the ground to shake.

Footage posted online shows the sheer force of the explosion with smoke sent bursting from the blast.

West Midlands Ambulance Service's Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer Steve Wheaton shared the footage of the bomb and it was destroyed.

Smoke enveloped nearby buildings and the camera captured the blast from the 550lb bomb.

Around 250 tons of sand had been placed to surround the bomb to ease the impact.
