Four coronavirus deaths recorded in Black Country and Birmingham

Four new coronavirus deaths have been reported in hospitals across the Black Country and Birmingham, NHS figures have shown.

One death was recorded at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General Hospital and City Hospital in Birmingham, on Sunday.

Two deaths were confirmed at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, with one on Tuesday and another on Wednesday.

And another death has been confirmed at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth Hospital and others, on Tuesday.

No new deaths were confirmed in Staffordshire, which means the total for the three areas now stands at 2,633. A further 705 have died in care homes from coronavirus.

It comes as a further 43 people died from the virus in hospitals across England, bringing the total to 30,323. The UK-wide figure is yet to be released.

A total of 1,019 people have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, with 292 at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

A further 268 people have died at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, with 392 at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, and 230 patients at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

The death toll at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Stafford's County Hospital, stands at 361.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 43 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 30,323.

"Patients were aged between 32 and 99 years old. All but one (aged 71) had known underlying health conditions."
