A church is offering a Covid-19-safe and very different way for people to make Harvest donations.

Rev. David Wright and Rev. Abbie Walsh will be running a special drive-through donations area on Wulfruna Street outside St Peter’s Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton.

Rev. Wright said the drive-through was a way for people who might not want to attend one of the three Harvest services on Sunday due to safety concerns around coronavirus to donate.

He said: “We’ll be receiving Harvest gifts as usual during our services for the festival, but we were concious there are people who may not necessarily want to come to a church because of the virus.

"As we know they’d be more comfortable with bringing donations to us outside, we got planning for the drive-through, which will take place behind the church on Wulfruna Street.

“When they drive down the street, they will see Abbie and I with high-vis jackets on top of our clerical collars, so people can drive up and hand us their donations.”

Rev. Wright said the donations made from the drive-through and the three services at 9am, 11.15am and 6.30pm would go to help the Good Shepherd Ministry, a charity he said the church had supported for a long time.

He added: “Harvest is all about giving thanks to God for the goodness of the harvest, as well as the good things the earth produces, by giving thanks for what you have and sharing it with other people.

“We are really trying to redouble our efforts this year and share as much as we can with the Good Shepherd.”

The Harvest drive-through will run on Sunday between 3pm and 5pm on Wulfruna Street, Wolverhampton.
