Compton Care staff take on marathon distance in fundraiser
Nurses, doctors and support staff at a hospice in Wolverhampton have come together to complete 600 laps – equal to the distance of a marathon.
A total of 40 Compton Care staff walked, jogged, ran, skated, and danced their way around the lawns of Compton Hall to help raise money.
They completed 15 laps each – roughly 26 miles – as part of the 2.6 Challenge set up after the London Marathon was postponed.
Kate Kelly, community and events manager, said: "We set our staff the challenge of completing a total of 600 laps around the lawn of Compton Hall to help raise vital funds needed to cover the cost of our care and everyone jumped at the chance to take part.
"The event was organised as Compton’s very own 2.6 challenge.
"With many fundraising events being cancelled due to the current Covid-19 pandemic we’re facing such difficult times in the charity sector so wanted to do something ourselves to give our funds a boost."
The event came as part of the 2.6 Challenge which was set up to help to fundraise for charities amid a substantial drop in income.
Ms Kelly said the support from people – as well as the hard work by members of staff – was incredible.
She added: "I am completely humbled by the dedication and determination of our team here at Compton, our key workers are not only offering an incredible service through these difficult times to patients and their families, they are now undertaking fundraising activities as well and I am certainly delighted to be part of such an amazing team.
"The support that we have seen from our community has also been incredible and has given us all a much-needed morale boost to know so many of you are behind us."
