More than 4,000 could be affected as Wolverhampton surgery announces controversial relocation
A GP Surgery in Wolverhampton is planned to relocate in a controversial move next month which could affect more than 4,000 patients.
The Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB) has announced the relocation of its Coalway Road Surgery, on Coalway Road, Wolverhampton, near the end of March.
The move, which is announced to take place on March 30, will see the surgery relocate to an alternative location at Warstone Health Centre, on Pinfold Grove, which is around a 10-minute walk and a two-minute drive from the former location.
Announcing the move, an ICB spokesperson said: "Following our communication with patients in July 2025, the Black Country Integrated Care Board, as commissioner, has considered all patient feedback and has approved the proposal to relocate Coalway Road Surgery.

"We will aim to relocate to new premises by Monday, 30 March 2026. From this date onwards, Coalway Road patients will be able to access care at Warstones Health Centre, and their medical records will be securely transferred. If patients are happy with this transfer, they do not need to take any action. "
In August 2025, the ICB announced proposals for the 'potential relocation' of the Coalway Road site, saying that the previous location needed 'significant work', and that the new venue would offer better services.
However, the move was met with concern from current patients of the Coalway Road site, with some saying that the relocation could impact those who find it hard to travel.
One Coalway Road patient, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "It won't necessarily affect me; however, for those who have a harder time travelling, it could cause some issues.
"Some people are used to having their local GP, where the new site is around a 10-minute walk or a bus ride; for those who are less able, it will have a bit of an impact."
Some also raised concerns over wait times, as some 4,000 patients will now attend Warstones Health Centre.
However, the trust has said that the new location will offer improved disability services, and the increase in patients will have access to appointments.
Addressing patients' concerns last year, Laura Harper, group manager for the trust's primary care network, said: "The proposed move would not affect access to appointments as Total Triage, which ensures patients requiring same-day appointments are prioritised by our GPs, would still be in place.
“There would also be no reduction in the number of healthcare professionals available to meet our patients’ needs."
The expected last day of the Coalway Road Surgery will be Friday, March 27, with patients able to make appointments for Warstones Health Centre from Monday, March 30.
