The Mayor of Sandwell Councillor Steve Melia was the guest of honour at Ryland View Care Home on Arnhem Way yesterday (August 11) as the home celebrated reopening the Bloomfield unit, one of three within the home.

Members of Advinia Health Care, which runs the home, were present at the reopening, as well as staff and residents, who joined the mayor for a celebration event afterwards.

Wellbeing coordinator Sarah Gillies said the event had been a great success and spoke about what opening up the unit would do for the home.

She said: "The event was brilliant, with the Mayor being there, as well as all the Advinia team, the property managers, staff and residents, and we all watched him cut the ribbon.

"We all then sat down with the residents and did some activities and made an afternoon tea for everyone to enjoy, which was really nice.

"We've had it entirely refurbished and it means that we can move operations up there while we begin refurbishing one of the other units and make them look fresher."

Ms Gillies said it was very important for residents to be able to take advantage of the new facilities and also said it was very important to get the acknowledgement of someone like the Mayor of Sandwell.

She said: "We're going to update the other units within the reception, which means that it will give residents a lot more options and even allow us to get more residents in.

"That means giving them the most comfortable treatment and life to the most important people in the home, so it was really important for us to have it opened by the Mayor today."
