Wolverhampton hospital garden makeover for children is 'icing on the cake' after year of fundraising by kind-hearted company
A big screen cinema experience is the main attraction of a new garden makeover for children at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton - created thanks to the generosity of a Cannock-based company.
Inco Contracts, which has already supported Your RWTC - the registered charity of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust - with 1,100 ‘chemo comfort bags’ and 1,000 radiotherapy water bottles, has gone a stage further by donating materials and considerable professional time to complete the two-week project.
Staff at the company, headquartered in Cannock, have redecorated the entire outdoor space, transforming it from a tired and unloved area into one that is brimming with colourful external walls, new windows and a pagoda to provide a sheltered place to sit and recover with nature.

The principal contractor has galvanised its supply chain to take part, with kind-hearted DMW and UK Electrical adding their expertise to the mix with full decorative services and new festoon lights installed free of charge.
A new 65-inch cinema screen and projector were added as finishing touches and will give children and their parents the chance to watch some of their favourite films, shows and sporting events in the fresh air.
Tim Lewis, associate director at Inco Contracts, said: "Your RWTC was our chosen charity for the last 12 months and we wanted to do as much possible to help improve the lives of the people the hospital serves.
“Our ‘chemo comfort bags’ and radiation bottles were supposed to be the main focus, as we all know people who have come through their own cancer battles and appreciate how important these simple items can be. However, when we heard about the children’s garden makeover that Jason Guy is leading the fundraising on, we knew we had to get involved.
“£37,000 has been raised to date, which is a fantastic amount. Rather than some of that going towards repairs, we could use our own skills and those of our supply chain to get the space into a good standard. This means all the money can be used on new equipment and seating to really create something special.”

Inco Contracts is a specialist in industrial, commercial and education refurbishment schemes across the UK, completing hundreds of projects every year.
The business, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, is passionate about its West Midlands roots, already completing a significant DIY makeover for St Giles Hospice in Lichfield, which cared for one of its employees.
Amanda Winwood, charity development manager at Your RWTC, said: “Inco Contracts has been a wonderful supporter this year, not only supplying us with vital equipment free of charge, but also helping to raise the profile of some of the amazing work we do here.
“The garden makeover is just the icing on the cake, and I can’t thank the firm and its amazing staff enough. It has brought a drab and uninspiring space back to life and now we can really get down to building something that will stimulate, inspire and hopefully help children recover.
“This is always a stressful time for patients and their parents, and I believe this new garden will be a fantastic distraction from the treatment they are undergoing.”
