Extra £1.7 million for health services in Dudley
A Black Country hospital is in line for a raft of improvements as a result of extra government cash, says an MP.
Sonia Kumar, MP for Dudley, said Bushey Fields Hospital would be among the beneficiaries of an extra £1.7 million being spent on health services in the borough.
She said £750 million was being spent nationally across 400 hospitals, to carry out repairs to leaky pipes, poor ventilation, and outdated electrical systems that have caused thousands of cancelled appointments and operations.
She said Bushey Fields Hospital in Dudley would benefit as part of the £1.7 million from the Estates Safety Fund, which will be shared across Dudley health services.
Miss Kumar said: "For too long, patients in Dudley have had to deal with delays and cancellations caused by crumbling infrastructure. This funding is another step in Labour’s mission to rebuild public services and ensure residents receive the healthcare they deserve.”
She said the funding package, confirmed in last year’s autumn budget, was part of Labour’s broader £26 billion investment in the NHS to expand services, cut waiting times, and strengthen frontline care.
Miss Kumar said NHS hospitals across the UK experienced more than 4,000 infrastructure-related service disruptions in 2023/24.
“This is fantastic news for Dudley patients," she said.
"More appointments, more GPs, and now the crucial repairs to prevent cancellations, step by step, we’re making real change happen.”
