Home Instead Dudley took on the company’s Bring Joy Foundation Challenge 500 to raise the funds between up to January.

But staff at the home care branch have already hit the target – with the treats being sold for £1 each and then dropped off safely.

Susan Love, director of community engagement at the branch, said: “I pledged to bake 500 cupcakes and sell them for a pound each.

“Our caregivers have overwhelmed me with their generosity in the purchasing of cakes. By regularly sharing on our social media, we have also had donations from local community partner agencies, community groups, lots of people are happy to donate online and don’t even want the cupcakes!

“Our local Tesco at Burnt Tree have also been fantastic. We have a fantastic relationship with them and they have donated ingredients for the cupcakes.”

The Challenge 500 fundraising effort was launched to help elderly people feeling lonely, desperate or isolated due to coronavirus restrictions.

Ms Love added: “This has been such a great opportunity to help vulnerable older people.

“It’s also great to help those who may not be quite at the stage of life of needing home care yet, but still run the risk of becoming lonely and isolated without the support of a community group.

“The benefits have been amazing allowing us to connect with our community, even remotely.”
