Wolverhampton care home staff brave the shave
Four members of staff at a Black Country nursing home have braved the shave for a fundraising campaign.
One male and three female staff members of Anville Court Nursing Home in Wolverhampton all had their hair shaved off for an event called "Lockdown Locks Off".
Activities co-ordinator Phil Hemming, 29-year-old laundry assistant Laura Robinson, 50-year-old receptionist Sam Davis, and 52-year-old carer Marcia Walker all took part in the event, which has raised more than £1,100.

Phil said he came up with the idea of the event on Sunday, June 21, after his father John died of Covid-19 aged 65 in April.

He said: "It's been a hard time because of my dad passing away and through grieving for him, but I went back to work and thought about doing something good for people.

"It was while looking in the mirror that I thought of 'Lockdown Locks Off' and that's when everything came together.

"I was trying to get all the boys at the home to take part, but they all got a bit self-conscious, whereas the girls were more than keen to get involved, which made it more of a thing."

The 34-year-old from Parkfields said the funding would go into the residents fund, which would help provide for a celebration event later in the year, as well as equipment for activities and future entertainment for residents.

He said: "I've never felt the wind on my head like this before, but it was absolutely worth it for what we raised and all part of the community we have at the home.

"Everyone here has a personality and we all gel together well and this is certainly a place the residents can call home.

"It's been a difficult time because of lockdown and everything around Covid-19, but we are looking on the other side of this and we hope the funds raised can help with that."
