Pat McFadden MP: Cancer trials must continue after Brexit

Britain's participation in European clinical trials on cancer research must continue post-Brexit, an MP has warned.

Pat McFadden has urged ministers to ensure trials that take place across several countries are not impacted by the UK's decision to leave the EU.

The Labour MP for Wolverhampton South East has backed a Cancer Research UK campaign calling on Brexit Secretary David Davis to maintain the 'collaborative effort'.

“The way cancer research is developing means that we have become better at identifying specific types of cancers, often with relatively small groups of sufferers in each country," he said.

"That means that clinical trials often take place across a number of countries so that enough patients with the same type of cancer can be included.

"This kind of research is very much a collaborative effort. I am glad to support this campaign."

Mr McFadden has written to Mr Davis asking that the Government to prioritise the UK’s continued ability to take part in these trials on the same basis as we do now.
