Stafford Hospital is still unable to recruit staff to provide safe care because of its 'toxic' brand, administrators told a public meeting in Cannock.

Administrators Alan Bloom and Professor Hugo Mascie-Taylor said some of the country's top health professionals believe dissolving Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust would repair the 'damage of the past'.

Addressing 200 residents at Cannock's Prince of Wales theatre yesterday, they also stated that local GPs still needed persuading that the services at Stafford Hospital were safe.

Mr Mascie-Taylor said: "Despite services improving at Stafford, and local people having faith in its services, it has become something of a byword for bad care used across the country, right up to and including the Prime Minister.

Mr Bloom added: "Nationally it's almost seen as toxic."
