Fresh plans for new Lidl in Wolverhampton a step closer after delays - find out more
Lidl has confirmed it has officially purchased the former Goldthorn Hotel site off Penn Road following delays from the current owner in completing.
Discount supermarket chain Lidl has announced it is officially a step closer to opening a new store at the site of a former Wolverhampton hotel after securing ownership.
Lidl has confirmed it has officially purchased the former Goldthorn Hotel site off Penn Road following delays from the current owner in completing.
Despite receiving planning permission in 2023, as a result of the delays the discounter has not been able to begin construction.
Lidl has also updated its plans to its latest store specifications, requiring a new planning application, which will be submitted in the near future.

A recent public consultation showed that more than three quarters of respondents supported the updated plans, which now include Lidl’s latest store design, featuring the fan-favourite in-store bakery and much-loved Middle of Lidl.
Outside, new landscaping proposals are being developed including tree and shrub planting to assist biodiversity on the site.
A larger car park is also now proposed with over 90 car parking spaces including four rapid electric vehicle charging bays, dedicated accessible and parent-and-child parking spaces as well as covered bicycle parking.
The move will create up to 40 new jobs.
Joe Caunt, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We know the community has been eager for progress on our store for Penn Road.
“We have now officially purchased the former hotel site.
“Overcoming these delays and taking full ownership means we can finally move forward.
“We are in the process of submitting an updated planning application to ensure the site features our very latest design.
“Securing the site is a critical step towards opening our doors."
