Sodexho, which has offices in Halesowen and Shropshire, has signed a £2.3 million three-year deal with a further two year take up option with Walsall Council.
Although the private company will be responsible for providing and delivering 175,000 lunches and dinners annually to around 350 residents some issues will remain the responsibility of Walsall Council including setting the price of meals.
Any review of the charges would need to go before Walsall Council's cabinet for approval. The cost of a main meal is now £2.42 having been increased from £2.20 at the beginning of the year.
Piers Zangana, spokesman for Sodexho, said: "All the prices are dictated by the authority although obviously we may decide to put up some of our charges which may then impact on any future decision made by the council."
Around 20 cooks and van drivers will be transferred to Sodexho as part of the agreement.
