Five flights cancelled at Birmingham Airport as airline axes thousands of routes from summer schedule to save jet fuel
Five flights are cancelled at Birmingham Airport today (Saturday 25 April).
Five flights are cancelled at Birmingham Airport today as a major airline has axed 20,000 flights to save on jet fuel.
Lufthansa said it will cancel 20,000 short-haul flights scheduled until October in a bid to save jet fuel, as airlines struggle with potential shortages and higher prices due to the war in Iran.
The cuts are being rolled out across the group’s six main hubs: Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels and Rome.
According to the Lufthansa Group, 120 flights are being scrapped each day.

Jet fuel has doubled in price since the start of the US-Israel war with Iran as the conflict has slowed its production and transportation across the Middle East.
Several airlines, including KLM-France and Delta, have also temporarily cut some flights while others have raised ticket prices as they pass on expenses to customers.
Lufthansa flights at Birmingham Airport have been affected in recent days and will continue to be disrupted throughout the summer.
Lufthansa flights to destinations including Frankfurt and Munich at the West Midlands travel hub will be axed for months.
