Flood alerts in place in Black Country as Storm Goretti snow begins to melt
Flood alerts have been put in place for two rivers in the Black Country as the weather begins to change and snow from Storm Goretti begins to melt.
The warnings from the Government Flooding Service have been put in place for Illey Brook in Halesowen and the River Stour and Smestow Brook, which runs around Halesowen, Stourbridge, Kingswinford, Wombourne and Kinver.
At Illey Brook, a flood 'warning' meaning flooding is expected was put in place as the water began to rise, with the latest measurement at 0.56 metres and flooding possible at 0.90 metres,
The River Stour and Smestow Brook are subject to a flood 'alert' meaning flooding is possible.
The Flooding Service said both warnings would be updated by 11am on Monday (January 12), or as the situation changed.
A spokesperson for the service said: "Rising river levels are expected to cause flooding today for Illey Brook at Halesowen
"Flooding may affect properties and roads around Chadbury Road and Woodman Close.
"We are closely monitoring the situation from Manor Way to Shenstone Trading Estate.
"Start acting on your flood plan if you have one and activate any flood protection products you may have.
"The Illey Brook level at Halesowen Manor Way was 0.56 metres. Property flooding is possible when it goes above 0.90 metres."
Of the River Stour and Smestow Brook a spokesperson said: "Rising river levels today may lead to flooding for River Stour and Smestow Brook in the Black Country and South Staffordshire.
"Flooding may affect low-lying land and roads around Halesowen, Stourbridge, Wombourne, Kingswinford and Kinver.
"We are closely monitoring the situation .
"Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses."
