Walsall super-up: Council announces opening date for anticipated £32 million state-of-the-art recycling facility
Walsall Council has confirmed an opening date for the new Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station in Aldridge.
The facility on Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, which has been locally dubbed the 'Aldridge super-tip', has been pencilled to open by the council on February 2.
The construction of the £32 million project was completed in 2025; however, the council was awaiting an operational permit from the Environment Agency before opening the venue to the public.

The site was previously described by the leader of the authority, Councillor Mike Bird, as 'the biggest in Europe', and will feature 38 different skips across 19 bays to recycle a wide range of materials.
The site will also feature a dedicated 'reuse shops', which will aim to give new life to items that otherwise would be thrown away.
Staff will be able to upcycle and repair items at the workshop, to prepare furniture and household goods into a safe and usable condition to be sold at a low cost to residents.
The new opening also spells the end of the tip on Merchants Way, situated half a mile from Middlemore Lane, which will cease operation from Sunday, February 1.

Fryers Road rip, in Bloxwich, will remain open to residents ahead of planned redevelopment works, details of which are yet to be provided by the authority.
The new super tip will be open seven days a week. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday it’ll open 9am to 5pm. On Tuesday, from 10am to 6pm and on Thursday, from 9am to 4pm.
For the first two weeks of opening, the reuse shop will open between 10am and 2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, before aligning with the tip’s opening hours.

Proof of residence is required to make use of the site, in the form of a driving licence, a recent council tax letter or a utility bill.
Councillor Suky Samra, portfolio holder for street scene, said: “This project is a huge development for Walsall.
“What has been delivered here is the definition of ‘state-of-the-art’.
“The site will prove vital in ensuring we can continue to accommodate the waste demands we face in the borough.
“Our current facilities have served us well, but now is the time for a new era, where we recycle and reuse more of our waste.”
