Pet owners urged to be careful around ice after dog rescued from freezing water in Stafford
Dog owners have been reminded to be careful around frozen bodies of water after a dog fell through ice in Stafford and had to be rescued by firefighters.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding all dog owners to keep their pets on a lead around ice after a dog was rescued from a pool in Stafford.
Crews were called at 1.10pm on Wednesday (January 7) to Hyde Lea Bank after a medium-sized dog fell through thin ice into the water.
Crews attended the scene and used a reach pole to rescue the dog, which was then taken to the vets.
Group manager Jordan Money, who attended the scene, said: “Frozen ponds, rivers and lakes can be very dangerous and are best avoided, by both people and animals.
“I would remind dog owners to keep their pets on a lead around ice so that they are not at risk of falling in.
“If the worst happens, never attempt to rescue them yourself, call 999.”
