A concert involving the largest children’s choir concerts in the world has joined the list of cancelled events due to Storm Goretti.

The organisers of Young Voices put out a message saying they had decided not put on the Thursday night performance at the BP Pulse Live Arena at the NEC due to the forecast severe weather.

The Met Office has placed an amber weather alert on Birmingham and the rest of the West Midlands from 8pm on January 8 to 9am on January 9, with four to six inches (10 to 15 cm) of snow forecast during that time, bringing hazardous travel conditions.

A spokesman said: "We’ve taken the decision to postpone the Young Voices concert on January 8 due to the current snow conditions and weather forecast.

"The safety of children, teachers and families always comes first, and the information available to us means this is the responsible decision.

"All schools affected have been emailed directly. We are in the process of arranging an alternative date for the concert, and more information will follow to both schools and ticket holders.

"Thank you for your understanding.

"We know how disappointing this is, but safety must always come before everything else."

The organisers said choir places will be held, audience tickets will remain valid for the new date and pre-booked parking will automatically be rescheduled to the new date.
